Ten things that happen at work, and one sentence to say in each. You are volunteered in a meeting without being asked. Your idea comes back presented by somebody else. A meeting lands on the day you booked off months ago. You are told you should be more visible. Somebody asks you to just quickly. For each one: what not to do, the exact words, and why they work. None of these will fix anything, and they are not meant to. They are what to say in the ten seconds after something happens, so that you spend nothing you cannot afford and end up with a record of what was actually agreed. Every one is short, unarguable, and costs you no goodwill. None of them require you to be braver than you feel like being on a Tuesday.
